Zenith Bank Plc Chairman Jim Ovia withdrew from the ongoing activities of the World Economic Forum, WEF, in South Africa following the outbreak of xenophobic attacks targeting mainly Nigerians domiciled in that country.
Ovia and other prominent business moguls, professionals and captains of industry were named as keynote speakers to make headlines at WEF events, but Ovia has since notified organizers of its withdrawal.
Development is further fueled by the diplomatic feud that xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other Africans residing in South Africa have sparked between Nigeria and South Africa.

The federal government has already announced its withdrawal from the events, including recalling its ambassador and closing its embassy in that country and insisting that the South African government must guarantee the safety of Nigerians and compensate the loss of life and material.
One of Nigeria’s main airlines, Air Peace, has also positioned a plane to evacuate any Nigerians wishing to leave South Africa and return to Nigeria.
